How Do I Remove and Install a Balljoint? Posted by Customer

Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the wheel. Remove the fasteners and separate the balljoint from the control arm. Remove the lock pin and loosen the balljoint stud nut a few turns, but don't remove it. First note how it's installed, then remove the balljoint stud nut lock pin. Use a balljoint separator to break the balljoint loose from the steering knuckle. Use a balljoint separator like this, available at most auto parts stores, to pop the ballstud out of the steering knuckle. Remove the nut and detach the balljoint from the steering knuckle. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Be sure to tighten the fasteners, then install the lock pin. Install the wheel and lug nuts, then lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts.
