Q:
How Do I Replace the Heater Core in a Honda Odyssey? Posted by Customer
A:
Before proceeding, ensure the air conditioning system is discharged by a dealer service department or an automotive air conditioning shop. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Drain the cooling system. For the front heater core, disconnect the heater control valve cable. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core inlet and outlet pipes at the firewall. Disconnect the evaporator inlet and outlet air conditioning lines at the engine compartment firewall. Remove the mounting nut for the heater unit located in the engine compartment. Remove the instrument panel. Take out the evaporator unit mounting bolts and remove the evaporator unit from the heater unit. Remove the heater roof vent cover, the heater unit mounting bolts, and then the assembly from the passenger compartment. Remove the heater core cover mounting screws and carefully pull the heater core from the housing. For 2005 and later models, detach the condenser drain hose and then remove the entire heater blower assembly. Remove the upper duct fitting from the heater unit. Take off the passenger's air outlet and the cover from the top of the heater core. Detach the heater tube clamps and then pull the heater core out of the case. For all models, installation is the reverse of removal. Remember to reconnect the heater core inlet and outlet hoses at the firewall. Reconnect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery. Refill the cooling system. Have the air conditioning system recharged and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.For the rear heater core, remove the rear trim panels. Disconnect the air conditioning/heater housing electrical connectors. Disconnect the air duct from the housing. Disconnect the heater hoses and the air conditioning lines from the A/C and heater housing. For 2004 and earlier models, remove the air conditioning/heater housing mounting bolts and nuts. For 2005 and later models, unbolt the wiring junction box, disconnect the remaining wiring, and remove the unit from the vehicle. Remove the heater core mounting screws and clamps, and lift the heater core from the housing. Installation is the reverse of removal. Remember to reconnect the heater core inlet and outlet hoses. Reconnect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery. Refill the cooling system and have the air conditioning system recharged and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.
