If you're removing the front heater core, have the air conditioning system discharged by a licensed automotive air conditioning technician before proceeding. This step is not necessary for the rear heater core removal. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Drain the cooling system. For all models except the 2007 Acura MDX: Place a reference mark on the heater control valve cable, then disconnect it. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core inlet and outlet pipes at the firewall. Plug the heater core pipes to prevent coolant spillage. Disconnect the evaporator inlet and outlet lines at the engine compartment firewall. Remove the mounting nuts for the heater core and evaporator housing located in the engine compartment. Remove the instrument panel. Remove the evaporator housing from the heater housing. Remove the heater core housing mounting bolts and the assembly from the passenger compartment. Remove the clamps that secure the heater core pipes and pull the heater core from the housing. Installation is the reverse of removal. Reconnect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery. Refill the cooling system. Have the air conditioning system recharged and leak tested by the shop that discharged it. For 2007 Acura MDX models: Disconnect the air conditioning evaporator inlet and outlet line fittings located on the right (passenger) side of the engine compartment firewall. Remove the mounting nuts for the heater core and evaporator housing. Disconnect the electrical connector and harness from the blower fan motor and housing. Disconnect all of the electrical connectors from the air conditioning/heater core housing. Fold the carpet back to gain access to the lower heater duct and then remove it. The air conditioning/heater housing is mounted to the firewall with six threaded-studs and six nuts. Remove the housing by sliding it toward the rear of the vehicle. Remove the heater core from the housing. Installation is the reverse of removal. For the rear heater core: Remove the center console. Disconnect the heater hoses from the rear air conditioning/heating housing. Remove the clamps that hold the heater core pipes in place. Remove the two right air conditioning/heating housing mounting belts. Tilt the right side of the housing up to remove the water core. If the housing will not tilt easily, remove the housing mounting bolts on the left (driver's) side. Installation is the reverse of removal. Reconnect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery. Refill the cooling system. Have the air conditioning system recharged and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.
