About every six months, with the vehicle raised and supported securely on jackstands, the flexible hoses which connect the steel brake lines with the front and rear brake assemblies should be inspected for cracks, chafing of the outer cover, leaks, blisters and other damage. Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, remove the wheel, have a drip pan and some rags ready to contain the brake fluid and control any spills. On 2008 and earlier models, release the retaining clip holding the wheel speed sensor connector to the brake hose mounting bracket, use a flare nut wrench to disconnect the brake line from the brake hose joint, remove the bolts holding the brake hose bracket to the body, remove the bolt from the banjo fitting on the caliper and remove the brake hose. At the frame bracket, use a flare nut wrench to disconnect the brake hose from the brake line, use pliers to remove the retaining clip from the brake hose, disconnect the hose and retainers from the lower bracket in the same manner. Installation is the reverse of removal, use new sealing washers on the banjo fitting and ensure there are no twists or kinks in the brake hose, use new retaining clips and ensure there are no twists or kinks in the brake hose, start the threads by hand, install the new retaining clip, then tighten the fitting to the torque, a soft hammer can be used to seat the retaining clips into the bracket, bleed the brakes at the wheel(s) you've been working on, install the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle and lighten the lug nuts to the torque, check the brake system operation before placing the vehicle in normal service, when replacing brake lines, be sure to use the correct parts, don't use copper tubing for any brake system components, purchase steel brake lines from a dealer or auto parts store, prefabricated brake line, with the tube ends already flared and fittings installed, is available at auto parts stores and dealer parts departments, when installing the new line, make sure it's securely supported in the brackets and has plenty of clearance between moving or hot components, after installation, check the master cylinder fluid level and add fluid as necessary, bleed the brake system and test the brakes carefully before driving the vehicle in traffic.
