Q:
How to remove and install Fuel Injectors and Fuel Rail on a Honda Odyssey? Posted by Customer
A:
Relieve the system fuel pressure, then disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the intake manifold cover and the upper intake manifold. Disconnect the electrical connectors from all six fuel injectors. On 2001 models, disconnect the vacuum hose and the fuel return hose from the fuel pressure regulator. For 2001 models, disconnect the fuel supply hose from the front fuel rail, then remove and discard the old 0-ring. To detach the fuel rail, remove all four mounting bolts: two on the front fuel rail and two on the rear fuel rail. The crossover hose connecting the right ends of the two fuel rails doesn't need to be disconnected to remove the fuel rail and injectors. However, for engines with some miles on them, it's advisable to disconnect the crossover and replace both 0-rings at that end. On 2002 and later models, either disconnect the crossover hose from the left ends of both the front and rear fuel rails or disconnect the fuel hose from the junction block at the left rear corner of the engine. If disconnecting the crossover hose from the fuel rails, replace the old O-ring at each end with a new one. On 2001 models, remove the four fuel rail retaining bolts. For 2002 and up models, remove the eight fuel rail mounting bolts. Remove the fuel rails and fuel injectors as one unit. If any injectors are tough to extract, carefully pry them loose. To remove each injector from its bore in the fuel rail, wiggle it side to side and pull simultaneously. Clean the fuel strainer from each injector with solvent or replace if necessary. Discard the upper O-ring, cushion ring, and the lower O-ring from each injector. For best practices, replace all O-rings, cushion rings, and seal rings even if only one injector is problematic. Remove and discard the seal ring from each injector bore in the cylinder head. INSTALLATION: Lubricate the new cushion rings and upper O-rings with clean engine oil and set them on each injector. Insert the fuel strainer into the top of each injector and coat the new lower O-rings with clean engine oil, then attach them to the injectors' lower ends. Oil the outer surface of each upper O-ring and cushion ring, then place each injector into its bore in the fuel rail. Lubricate each new seal ring with engine oil and press it into an injector bore in the intake manifold. Set the injectors and fuel rail assembly on the intake manifold and tighten the fuel rail bolts. For 2002 and later models, reattach the fuel injector wiring harness covers to the fuel rails. Continue with the installation, reversing the removal process. Once everything is reassembled, reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal. Activate the ignition switch to ON to allow the fuel pump to build pressure in the fuel lines and rail, but avoid using the starter. Repeat this two or three times, then inspect the fuel lines, rails, and injectors for any leaks.
