Q: How to remove and reinstall an automotive air conditioning compressor for the Honda Passport?
A: Auto AC technician should first discharge and recover the refrigerant, disconnect the battery's negative cable, and remove the compressor's drive belt. After that, the electrical connector and refrigerant lines should be disconnected. For a pre-1998 compressor, disconnect the connector, unbolt the line flanges and remove the mounting bolts. Disconnect the connector for a post-1998 compressor removing line bolts as well as upper and lower mounting bolts. Old O-rings must be thrown away. The compressor is unbolted and lowered from the vehicle. When installing new compressors use instructions provided with them for oil level. Use new O-rings lubricated with refrigerant oil while reinstalling it. Finally, the system should be evacuated, recharged, and leak tested by discharging shop.
