Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, disconnect the electrical connector from the distributor, note the raised "1" on the distributor cap, remove the distributor cap, using a socket and breaker bar on the crankshaft pulley bolt, rotate the engine until the rotor is pointing toward the number one spark plug terminal, make a mark on the edge of the distributor base directly below the rotor tip and inline with it, remove the distributor hold-down bolt and clamp, then pull the distributor straight out to remove it, insert the distributor into the engine in exactly the same relationship to the block that it was in when removed, to mesh the helical gears on the camshaft and the distributor, it may be necessary to turn the rotor slightly, make sure the distributor is seated completely and the alignment marks made previously are aligned, place the hold-down clamp in position and loosely install the bolt, install the distributor cap and tighten the screws securely, plug in the electrical connector, reattach the spark plug wires to the plugs (if removed), connect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery, check and, if necessary, adjust the ignition timing and tighten the distributor hold-down bolt securely.
