For the hinges and latch assemblies of the doors, hood and the trunk, the caretaker should drop at least a few drops of light oil or lock lubricant every 3000 miles or at least once every three months. In addition, the door latch strikers should be periodically greased with some thin layer of grease to avoid high rate of wear and come with smooth performances. It is also suggested that the door and trunk locks should be lubricated with spray on graphite lubricant.

When working on Rodeo and Passport models, remove the tailgate panel screws and straps, lift off the tailgate access panel by removing its screws, and pull back the tailgate plastic guard. First, pull off the tailgate latch by removing two screws at each end with an impact-driver (if needed), pulling out the latch-connected rods, and gently taking out the latch. To take out the window latch, first remove the bolts holding the latch in place, detach the actuating rods, and remove the latch. Unscrew the bolts that hold the handle on the outside, and then undo the cables that make it work from the back of the handle. To get the lock cylinder out, pull off the plastic clip linked to the rod that moves the lock, slide the clip that holds the lock, and then pull the cylinder straight out from the door. You can install everything like you removed it.
