    Q:
How to Replace the Brake Master Cylinder in a Honda Pilot? Posted by Customer
    A:
Honda and Acura models from this time period need owners to take off the air intake tube, disconnect sensor wires, and withdraw as much of the fluid as they can with a syringe. Put rags under the fluid connections, and have caps or plastic bags ready to cover tube ends when you disconnect them. Be careful not to drop brake fluid, which can stain paint. A flare nut wrench removes the fittings that let brake lines enter the Brake Master Cylinder. Once loose, we move the brake lines out of the way and use plugs to block them off, stopping any dirt from getting in. After removing the nuts from the master cylinder mounting, we carefully pry it off the studs and take it out of the engine area to prevent fluid leakage. When changing to a fresh master cylinder, take the reservoir from the old one and put it into the new one. Make sure you put fresh seals inside. When installing a replacement master cylinder, you need to remove any air first by placing it in a vise and connecting hose tubes to its outlet ports. Pour the right brake fluid into the reservoir, then push the master cylinder pistons carefully to push air out. This process is called "bench bleeding." Push the pistons into the master cylinder and check for air bubbles. Do this step again until no air is visible. Then disconnect the air tubes and put rubber plugs into the opened ports. First tighten hand-tight the attaching nuts that hold the master cylinder to the power brake booster. Then put a new O-ring in the sleeve of the master cylinder. The brake hose connections are first put into the master cylinder while keeping it loose, so the fitting goes on without struggle, then tightened after everything fits in place. The reservoir should receive brake fluid, then we'll bleed both the master cylinder and entire brake system, with someone pressing the pedal while we perform the bleeding. The air intake tube is put back in place, and all disconnected accelerator and cruise control wires are reconnected and set properly. Before starting regular use, the brakes are thoroughly checked.
