Support the rear of the vehicle securely and remove the rear wheels, ensuring the rear axle housing is also supported with a floor jack. Remove the damper access covers from inside, then take off the cap and unscrew the two nuts on each side. If only the shocks are being removed, lower the axle just enough for the rod to clear the body; otherwise, lower it until the shock and spring parts are completely free. Remove the springs and upper and lower seats if necessary, then unbolt and take out the shocks at the axle. If the springs have been removed, install the upper spring seats into the body, place the lower spring seats on the axle, and position the springs on the seats. For installation, position the shocks upright in the axle housing and loosely bolt them at the bottom. Gradually raise the axle with a floor jack until the piston rods of the shocks can be guided through the holes in the vehicle body, ensuring the springs remain in the correct positions. Once the piston rods are through the body holes, install the two lock nuts on either side, using an Allen wrench to hold the nuts, and torque the lower nuts to 14 ft lbs. (19 Nm) and the upper to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm). Finally, install the cap and access cover, put the wheels back on, lower the vehicle to the floor, and torque the lower shock mounting bolts to 60 ft. lbs. (83 Nm).
