When you are dealing with worn CV joints, consider rebuilt drive axles as an alternative to save time and effort. Take the drive axle out to deal with the inner CV joint; then inspect it for play and smooth operation. If boots get torn, disassemble the joint, clean components, and inspect for damage. If the joint is good, lubricate and fit a new boot. This means removing the boot, marking the joint housing, separating the
Axle Shaft and tripod assembly, and removing the tripod assembly snap-ring. Clean all components paying particular attention to wear or damage. In case of wear replace either the entire joint or possibly even entire drive axle assembly. Outer CV joint requires following a separate boot replacement procedure.
