Before anything else when performing the removal and installation of an exhaust manifold, it is necessary to disconnect the cable of the negative terminal of the battery. Second, take off the exhaust manifold heat shield and then lift the car and put jackstands on it in the proper manner. Next, remove the splash shield from below the engine compartment, and if you have one, the driveaxle heat shield. Continue with the exhaust manifold brace bolts to get rid of the pipe to manifold bolts that should further help to remove the exhaust pipe. Last but not the least, you need to undo all the fasteners and end up with the removal of the exhaust manifold from the
Cylinder Head. When installing, by the aid of scraper clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head, manifold and exhaust pipe and make sure that the surfaces were cleaned with brake system cleaner and solvent. Make sure that the mating surfaces are flat and free of any defects as this may mean that manifolds have to be machined. Screw on a new gasket to the studs and fit the manifold on the cylinder head and tighten the nuts and bolts evenly to the recommended torque. Attach the exhaust pipe to the manifold and fasten the bolts to the correct measures, while making sure they are as tighter as possible. The rest of the layout is just the opposite to its removal process as mentioned in the previous step. Last but not the least, connect the battery again and start the engine to look for exhaust leak.
