Drivebelts, located at the front of the engine, need periodic inspection and adjustment. All models have an automatic drivebelt tensioner, which needs replacement if the indicator moves excessively. The single drivebelt is used for the alternator, water pump, and air conditioning compressor. Check each belt for damage with the engine off. To replace, loosen the right front wheel lug nuts, remove the wheel and inner fender splash shield, release the tensioner, remove the old belt, and install the new one. For tensioner replacement, remove the drivebelt, alternator and water pump pulley mounting fasteners, remove the tensioner assembly, install the new one, and bleed the tensioner assembly. For 2.4L engines, remove and reinstall the idler pulley and tensioner.
