  Q: What Should Be Checked If a Malfunction Occurs in the Starling Circuit and Starter Motor?

  A: Check Battery Cable clamps, cables, battery, starter solenoid wiring and connections, starter mounting bolts, fuses, gear position switch or clutch start switch circuit, starter cut relay. If starter does not activate, check battery voltage to solenoid. If starter turns over slowly, check cranking voltage and current draw. If starter receives voltage but does not activate, remove and check starter/ solenoid assembly on bench. Install jumper cables, starter switch and apply battery voltage to S terminal. Observe solenoid plunger, shift lever and overrunning clutch extend and rotate pinion drive.

  Q: How to remove and install a Starter Motor?

  A: Disconnect the battery cable, remove the intake manifold (4-cylinder models), and label & disconnect wires from the starter motor solenoid. Remove the starter mounting bolts and detach the starter. Installation is the reverse of removal. Ensure the crimped side of the ring terminal faces up/forward, tighten bolts to torque, and reconnect the battery cable. Enter the anti-theft code, enter radio station presets, and reset the power window control unit. Remove the battery (V6 models), remove the bolt & detach the harness bracket, and reconnect the battery.
