On models with the parking brake lever in the center console, loosen the adjusting nut and raise the vehicle securely on jackstands. For models with the parking brake handle under the dash, loosen the locknut, completely unscrew the adjusting nut, and disconnect the equalizer from the rear relay lever assembly. Remove the cotter pin, plain washer, waved washer, and pin that secure the front lower cable to the rear relay lever assembly, then disconnect the front lower cable from the front relay lever assembly and remove it. Installation is the reverse of removal, followed by adjusting the parking brake. If necessary for clearance, raise the vehicle at the front and support it on jackstands. Remove the cotter pins, plain washers, waved washers, and pins that secure the rear cables to the rear wheel, then loosen the locknut and unscrew the adjusting nut securing the equalizer bracket to the rear relay lever assembly. Remove the intermediate cable and cable guides from the frame brackets, detach the clips and bolts attaching the intermediate cable and rear cable assembly to the frame brackets, and lift out the cables. Installation is the reverse of removal, followed by adjusting the parking brake. For models with a parking brake lever in the center console, remove the center console and disconnect the front cable from the parking brake lever. Disengage the equalizer from the two rear parking brake cables, remove the two rear cable bracket retaining nuts, and underneath the vehicle, remove the rear cable bracket from the pan, then disengage the cables from the bracket. Detach any cable clamps from the pan, frame, or springs. On models with rear drum brakes, remove the drum and rear brake assembly, disengage the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever, and detach the cable from the brake backing plate.
