All covered vehicles come with metric-sized fiberglass or steel belted radial tires and the use of other sizes or types will affect ride and handling. Tire type interchanges where radial tires, for instance, and bias belted ones are used can be very dangerous when it comes to handling. Some industries recommend replacing tires in pairs on an axle, in a manner that if only one tire is replaced, it must be an identical one in size, structure and general pattern. Handling and wear are sensitive to tire pressure which means that tire pressure should be checked on monthly basis or before the embarking on long trips. The wheels have to be replaced if they are bent or dented, if the wheels leak air, or the bolt holes are elongated or if heavily rusted out of their vertical symmetry or if lug nuts do not remain tight; welding or peening for repairs is prohibited. Tire and wheel balance is very important for over all driving experience and braking because uneven wheels will cause handling and ride quality problem and reduce tire lifespan. Whenever a tire is mounted on a wheel, balancing should be done by a shop with capacity to do so.
