Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, remove the drivebelt and, on 2007 and earlier models, the drivebelt tensioner, peel back the rubber weather cover, remove the nut that attaches the alternator output cable to the stud on the backside of the alternator, disconnect the alternator output cable and disconnect the electrical connector from the alternator, remove the three (2007 and earlier models) or two (2008 and later models) alternator mounting bolts, if replacing the alternator, take the old one with you when purchasing the replacement unit, make sure that the new/rebuilt unit looks identical to the old alternator, look at the terminals, look at the identification numbers, some new/rebuilt alternators DO NOT have a pulley installed, so you might have to swap the pulley from the old unit to the new/ rebuilt one, installation is the reverse of removal, reconnect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery, then check the charging voltage to verify that the alternator is operating correctly, enter the anti-theft codes for the radio and, if equipped, the navigation system, then enter the radio station presets and reset the clock, reset the power window control unit.
