    Q:
How to remove the Rack and Pinion steering gear assembly on a Honda Ridgeline? Posted by Customer
    A:
Honda vehicles and 2006 or earlier Acura models have the same steps to follow when removing and installing their Rack And Pinion. Start by unplugging the cable from the negative end of the battery and get all the power steering fluid out of the remote reservoir using a vacuum tool or taking off the fluid line. Uncover the steering shaft inside your car, and if it has one, place a note showing how the shafts relate at the U-joint. Later, extract the lower pinch bolt. After unlatching the front wheel lug nuts and lifting the car, place jack stands securely under it before you take off both front wheels. Pull off both the pressure line from the pump and its engine-attachment bracket. Place a device to hold the engine, take off the tie-rod ends from the steering knuckles, and unfasten the mounting bolts that keep the sub frame stiffener plate in place. Take off the exhaust hanger before the under-floor catalytic converter, then disconnect the converter from the pipes that connect to the muffler. Pull the power steering pressure switch's electrical connector, remove the driveshaft center support bearing and safety loops, and engine splash shield. Keep the sub frame in place with floor jacks, untighten, but don't remove, the four screws that connect it to the truck's frame. Disconnect the mounting bolts that secure the sub frame to the front and rear, then carefully lower your floor jacks until the tightly-held bolts reach them. Put caught sonics on sub frame's return line, place a tray under car, and free steering gear's pressure and flow lines with a flare tool. Take off the steering gear stiffener bracket from the sub frame. Then loosen the four main sub frame mounting bolts and lower the floor jacks again. Lift the steering gear from the left tire well while prying out its clamp bolts and securing it with a steering gear assembly. Put the steering gear back where it started, with tight bolts for the gear mounting and stiffener bracket, line up the sub frame precisely using reference marks, hook up the battery cables in their correct order, refill the power steering pump with its needed fluid, drain the lines, let air out of the system, and check for any fluid leaks. End with a test drive, then have the front part of your car aligned properly to make sure everything works well.
