Honda 17011-SJC-A02 Canister Assembly

A 2005 and later EVAP system equipped in Honda models routes fuel system vapors from the fuel tank through valves to store them in the EVAP canister temporarily. The components of the canister reside ahead of the fuel tank under the vehicle while keeping activated carbon inside it without need for maintenance. The main components of this system include a canister filter along with a canister vent shut valve and a two-way valve and bypass solenoid valve and a fuel tank pressure sensor that sends system data to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Dirt prevention occurs through the canister filter but fresh air passes through the canister vent shut valve during purging. The vapor flow control function of the two-way valve also helps avoid vacuum overloads and the bypass solenoid valve supports leak detection procedures. Through PCM control the Canister Purge Valve enables the closed-loop system to handle vapor intake into the intake manifold according to engine operational criteria. When the EVAP system fails, the result leads to both fuel odors as well as engine inefficiency that may require inspecting hoses as well as connections. Component replacement works by disconnecting electrical connectors together with hoses followed by bolt removal and correct assembly of new part installation.
