Disconnect the air cleaner, then locate and disconnect leads from spark plugs and the wire leads from rocker console without elimination of the wire supporters from the rocker arm cover. Pull the brake booster vacuum hose from its connection point and leave the hose aside somewhere you do not intend to use it. Disconnect the throttle linkage bracket from the valve cover by removing a bolt, free the clamp of the injection pipe on the left side, unbolt the throttle linkage bracket and the clamp bolt to the air injection pipe, and undo the nut of the valve cover that swings the clamp aside. Then, unscrew the valve cover mounting bolts and take off the valve cover off the top of the engine. If for any reason the cover is adhered to the head, strike the end gently with a piece of wood and hammer to free it, or use a flexible putty knife to disrupt gasket clip, but never exert pressure on the cover-head joint to avoid damaging the sealing material. Mating surfaces of the head and the valve cover should be CLEAN and free of sealant and old gasket material; use of the gasket scraper helps to achieve this, followed by wipe with lacquer thinner or acetone so as to avoid future models of oil leaks. A continuous bead of sealant should be applied to the cover-to-head mating surface and this should be done inside the mounting bolt holes. The new gasket should be laid on top of the cylinder head. Then the valve cover should be fitted to the gasket and while the sealant is wet one should fit and tighten the mounting bolts to the required torque. Perform the last stages of the installation, which can be done by using the information listed above but in a reverse manner.
