How to remove and install the valve cover on 2.4L engine on Honda CR-V?

To remove the components, first disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. For Civic models, remove the cowl cover. Next, take out the two engine cover screws and pull the cover up and off the ball stud. Remove the ignition coils, and for 2015 and later CR-V models, disconnect the wiring to the alternator, then release the harness retainers and move the harness aside. On CR-V models, remove the dipstick, disconnect the valve cover breather hose and PCV hose. For 2015 and later CR-V models, remove the high-pressure fuel pump cover. Then, remove the valve cover bolts or screws and lift the valve cover off, tapping gently with a soft-face hammer if necessary to break the gasket seal. For installation, clean the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold, cylinder head, and valve cover using a shop rag and brake system cleaner to eliminate all residue and gasket material. Insert a new valve cover gasket into the grooved recess in the valve cover, ensuring it is properly positioned. Install new seals on the spark plug tubes, apply a slight amount of RTV sealant to the timing chain cover grooves and the high-pressure fuel pump base mating areas, and tighten the valve cover nuts or bolts in the correct sequence to the specified torque. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal, and finally, reconnect the battery.

To remove the valve cover you must first unplug the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Third, take of the intake manifold cover and then the ignition coils. Next, remove the bolt holding the power steering hose bracket to the valve cover next is the dipstick and the valve cover breather hose. Following that, unscrew the valve cover nuts and then take off the valve cover gently with a help of soft-face hammer if it sticks to gasket. For installation, it is very important that the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold, cylinder head, and valve cover be free of any matter such as gasket goo and other residues so it is best to use a shop rag with lacquer thinner or acetone to wipe the area clean. Through the grooved recess on the valve cover, accommodate a new valve cover gasket into its right place. On the new spark plug tube seals, replace them, on the timing chain cover grooves and the number 5 rocker shaft holder, use a small amount of RTV sealant. Using your wrench tighten the nuts of the valve cover to the tightening sequence and torque applied and then reverse the process of removal. Finally, reconnect the battery.
