Before starting work, release any fuel system pressure and disconnect the black battery cable to reduce likelihood of electrical mishaps while working. Drain the cooling system. Remove the drivebell and the drivebelt tensioner. Remove the catalytic converter/exhaust manifold. Remove the intake manifold. First take off the timing chain, the camshafts, and the rocker arm unit. Disconnect the head's electrical wires that block the removal process, using tape to label each connection correctly for reassembly. Also, detach any coolant lines that would interfere. Loosen the cylinder head bolts gradually, twice as fast when removing as you tightened them by 1/4 turn per bolt at a time. Save the bolts for reuse and throw out the old ones. To get the cylinder head off, first lift it carefully, then use wood, block, and hammer if you feel any resistance. If the cylinder head still doesn't come off, use a cast contracting tool to force it from its spot. Set the cylinder head on wood blocks before you start to protect the gasket areas, then take off the old gasket. Before installing the head, both surfaces - cylinder head and engine block - need to be absolutely free of carbon and old gasket material, which you can wipe down entirely using brake system cleaner. Examine the engine block and cylinder head contact areas for bumps, large scrapes, and other damage. Also have a car repair shop check the cylinder head to see if it's not flat enough. You must run a matching tap tool in each of the small openings where your cylinder head bolts will go, to keep the threads clean and in good shape. Keep the new gasket placed where it belongs on the block where the dowels are. Sit the cylinder head gently on the engine block, place new bolts in place, and tighten them in order, according to the specified force. Put the rocker arm parts in place, then fit the camshafts back, put on the timing chain, and put the exhaust system and fuel intake systems back on. To reinstall everything, follow the steps we just went through in reverse order. Reattach the battery, replace engine oil and filter, top up your engine's cooling system, and start the engine to check for any oil or coolant leaks.
