To carry out the cylinder head removal, preliminary turn the fuel pump turn-off valve, disconnect the battery negative terminal. Have number one piston at the top dead center, drain the cooling system and then remove the spark plugs. Pull off the heater hoses, the top of the air filter housing, and the intake resonator assembly; as well, pull off the drive belts. Remove the hose clip; pull the power steering hoses off without unbolting the power steering pump from the engine and the power steering pum systematically, remove the power steering pump bracket. At a throttle body location remove accelerator and cruise control cables together with some hoses and connectors such as EVAP canister hose, brake booster vacuum, PCV, intake breather hoses etc. After tightening the screws, correctly mark each connector in order not to assemble them in a wrong way. Disconnect the coolant connector hose, the alternator and other brackets if any. Jack up the vehicle to a safe working level with a floor jack placed on a wood block between the jack pad and the oil pan, then unbolt the RM mount bracket angle. Remove the intake manifold brace, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, valve cover,
Timing Chain and the rocker arm assembly. Tighten the cylinder head bolts to a specific torque and then go round in a rotary way loosening a few of them to almost zero and then removing them, new bolts are required. Remove the cylinder head and be very delicate in handling it lest you damage the mating surfaces and check for warpage. For installation, required clean the mating surfaces, using gasket scraper and brake cleaner or any other recognized G series cleaner, to identify any damage. Run the threads in the bolt holes and wipe it clean and fit a new gasket to the engine block with all the dents facing upward. Apply oil on the new cylinder head bolts and put them on the head, torque in the right manner and stage. Fit the timing chain and rocker arm assembly, rotate the crankshaft gradually in an anticlockwise manner two complete revolutions to ensure that alignment marks coincide. Replace the other components in the sequence of their removal, refill the cooling system, change the engine oil and filter, connect the battery, start the engine and let it reach normal operating temperature, inspect the car for losses and correct operations.
