    Q:
How to perform regular engine oil and oil filter changes for the Honda Civic? Posted by Customer
    A:
Regular oil changes keep your engine healthy because old oil gets watered down and dirty, speeding up wear and tear. Prepare everything you need - a collection tray, gloves, wrench, socket, filter tool, and some cleanup materials ready on hand before you start. Two ways to easily explore all areas under the vehicle are to put it on a lift, drive it up ramps, or use jackstands to raise it. Before starting, learn where the oil drain plug and oil filter are placed because the engine and exhaust parts will be hot. Find a flat section of ground, turn on the engine to let it warm up normally, and then shut it down. Position jackstands under the vehicle and lift it in the air. Then take out the middle part of the under-vehicle splash guard for easy access. Set the drain pan beneath the plug, unscrew the plug slowly, and as oil drains, look for metal particles in the drain pan. Remove the drain plug, clean its surface with a rag, then put it back with a secure handignment. Hold your drain pan beneath the oil filter, loosen it with a filter wrench, and point the open end of the filter upward to stop oil from spilling. Before mounting the filter again, clean the filter base and make sure you remove any leftover oil dirt or gasket. Take the new filter apart, cover the rubber gasket with oil, and put it in place with directions from the maker. Move everything from under the car, lift it back up, and pour the new oil into the filling opening while using a funnel to help. Stop your engine and pour in three quarts of fresh oil. Check the dipstick reading later while giving the oil time to spread inside the car. When the dipstick shows mostly new oil at the upper hole, slide in the filler cap, start the engine, and let the new oil move around. Put the engine off after 60 seconds, then find out and secure any oil leaks at the drain plug and filter in the oil pan. Recheck the dipstick level and add oil if needed. Keep checking for oil leaks and correct level for the first few trips after your oil change. Drop off your used oil to a recycling place nearby; oil is not usable once poured out. To reset the oil life indicator, turn your ignition to On, but don't start the car. Push the select/reset button until you see the engine oil life indicator, hold the button down for 10 seconds when it starts blinking, wait another five seconds without releasing the button to set it to full at 100 percent.

    Q:
Why Are Regular Engine Oil and Oil Filter Changes Important for the Honda Fit? Posted by Customer
    A:
For your engine to last long, always do regular oil changes. Allow the engine to warm up, switch it off, and then remove the filler cap. Now that may mean you have to lift the vehicle, put a drain pan beneath the oil pan and then pull out the drain plug. Let the old oil drain out, clean the plug and insert it back is important. Take away the oil filter after cleaning where it goes and put in new one. After lowering down your car, add fresh oil and check its level. Circulate oil by starting the engine, adjust level if necessary, inspect for leaks on top of that. Keep checking for leakage of oil or change of levels after you are done. Dispose of old oil and reset maintenance minder too.
