The CR-V's electrical system uses multiple protection devices - fuses, circuit breakers, and heat-sensitive links - with major ones placed in the engine bay and those in the passenger side. You can check which fuses and relays protect which electrical systems by looking at the cover of the fuse/relay box. Each fuse keeps one specific circuit safe from damage. Small fuses fit only in specific spots and need pliers or special fuse-tool tools to take them off. You have to examine the fuse before addressing electrical problems - test light tells you if the fuse is broken, while you can see it with a simple look. Changing a blown fuse needs to be done with the same type of fuse, because mixing fuse types can damage your electrical system. Before replacing a fuse that fails right away, fix the short circuit that caused it to blow first. There are major fuses in your engine area fuse/relay box that look like large fuses and protect circuits. Specialized circuit breakers look after distinct circuits for features like power windows and heated seats. They automatically fine-tune themselves when an overcurrent occurs. For simple testing, circuit breakers can be taken out from their sockets a bit to check if the battery voltage works, and some need to be manually restored afterward.

The power supply networks of the vehicle are protected by fuses, circuit breakers or relays; fuse boxes and relay boxes are situated in the engine compartment and at left end of the CID. The engine compartment fuse and relay box is installed on the top left side of the vehicle, beneath the air filters housing and the actual fuses or relays can be located by opening the cover where a guide of the locations is engraved. The under-dash fuse and relay box is located at the left kick panel and it is necessary to pull the kick panel out to get to the fuses. If the new fitting fuse blinks out as soon as it was installed then it should not be replaced until the core cause which is most of the time a short circuit as the result of a faulty or worn out wire is checked and fixed.

If a replacement fuse fails immediately, the underlying issue, often a short circuit due to damaged wiring, should be addressed before replacing it again.

Medium and large fuses can be removed by hand.
