- Q:This is in regards to two distributor parts for my 1988 Civic DX 1.5L four-door: Parts 30103-PM5-A05 (rotor) and 30100-PM5-A02 (distributor assembly TD-01U Tec): My VIN number tells me these two parts fit. But the distributor currently in the car is a TD-05U, which fits 1986-87 Civics. This is more odd because my Honda mechanic owns virtually the same car as I do, his is a 1989 Civic 1.5L hatchback, and he also has a TD-05U distributor. He’s diagnosed that I need a new distributor as well as a new rotor. The car sputters when sitting at a long stoplight. To see whether the problem was something less than the distributor itself, he swapped (separately) his distributor cap, rotor, wires, and replaced my sparkplugs but the same problem continues. Question: Should I replace the rotor and distributor with another TD-05U (which fits the year-older model) or go with the TD-01U, which my VIN indicates is correct? - A:Our suggestion would be to go with the one that the VIN pulls up. right now Honda has discontinued the distributor parts for the older model year 86-87, which from what the customer said is currently in his vehicle.
