To repair worn CV joints, follow these steps:1. Remove Driveaxle: Take out the driveaxle from the vehicle.2. Secure Driveaxle: Mount the driveaxle in a vise with protection to prevent damage.3. Prepare Boot: Cut off both boot clamps and slide the boot towards the center.4. Outer Race Removal: Mark alignment points on the outer race and tri-pot bearing assembly. Remove the outer race.5. Axleshaft Snap-Ring: Remove the snap-ring from the axleshaft. Mark the relationship of the tri-pot bearing to the axleshaft.6. Tri-Pot Bearing Removal: Secure bearing rollers with tape. Remove the tri-pot bearing assembly from the axleshaft, then remove the stop-ring.7. Clean and Disassemble: Clean old grease from the outer race and tri-pot. Disassemble the tri-pot and clean the needle bearings with solvent.8. Inspect and Replace: Check rollers, tri-pot, bearings, and outer race for damage. Replace damaged parts.9. Boot Placement: Slide the boot onto the axleshaft, ensuring the tape-wrapped splines are protected. Install the inner snap-ring.10. Tri-Pot Assembly: Align the marks and tap the tri-pot assembly onto the axleshaft.11. Apply Grease: Apply grease to hold the needle bearings in place. Ensure each roller is on its original post.12. Outer Race Installation: Pack the outer race with half of the new boot's grease and install it. Align the marks.13. Boot Installation: Seat the boot in its grooves and adjust the driveaxle length.14. Equalize Pressure: Use a blunt screwdriver to equalize pressure in the boot by inserting it between the boot and outer race.15. Install Boot Clamps: Tighten new boot clamps.16. Inner CV Joint Disassembly: Remove the inner CV joint and disassemble it following the above steps.17. Dynamic Damper and Outer CV Joint: If the driveaxle has a dynamic damper, mark its position, cut the clamp, and remove it. Remove the outer boot clamps and slide off the boot. Note that the outer CV joint cannot be disassembled.18. Thorough Cleaning: Clean both inner and outer CV joints thoroughly.19. Inspect for Wear: Inspect bearing surfaces for wear. Replace the driveaxle if necessary.20. Outer Boot Installation: Slide the new outer boot onto the axleshaft. Use tape to protect the splines. Add grease and secure with new clamps.21. Dynamic Damper: If applicable, reposition the dynamic damper and secure it with a new clamp.22. Reassembly: Clean and reassemble the inner CV joint, then reinstall the driveaxle.
