    Q:
How to remove and install the Crankshaft Pulley and front oil crankshaft seal on a Honda Civic? Posted by Customer
    A:
First of all, pull the cable from the negative battery terminal also, and loosen the lugs nuts of the right-front wheel. Lift the car safely and place it on jackstands, now remove the right front wheel of the vehicle. Then, you are required to reach the splash shield beneath the engine compartment and then release the drivebelt. Loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt using a wrench that is made in such a way that it will not allow the crankshaft to turn; if one is not available, remove the flywheel/driveplate inspection cover and place a screwdriver horizontally between the starter ring gear teeth. Take the pulley with you and use the crankshaft front oil seal puller or(use a screwdriver that its tip is covered by tape so not to harm the crankshaft) Scrub the ID of the seal bore and inspect it for chips or slots and inspect the hub area for excessive or deep groove wearing or scoring and get a new hub if needed. When it is time to install I recommend that before installation you apply clean engine oil on the lip of the new seal, on the drive in the seal with a seal driver or a socket whose diameter is slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the seal that you are installing and to ensure it it is positioned correctly with the open side to the engine. Grease the sealing surface of the hub and put the crankshaft pulley on then tighten the bolt to the required torque. Last but not the least, perform the installation in the reverse order to the removal process and reconnect the battery.

    Q:
How to replace rear Crankshaft Seal on Honda CR-V? Posted by Customer
    A:
This has to be done with the transaxle out of the car and on a supporting stand. You must start the disassembly by taking off the flywheel/driveplate. Before removing the seal, the best thing that can be done is to measure the distance between the seal and the outside edge of the retainer or block using a small ruler or a caliper and the result recorded because the new Crankshaft Seal must not be driven in more than this measurement. The seal can be replaced without the need to remove oil pan or seal retainer if exist; use screwdriver or seal puller to extract the seal, always be careful not to mar the surface of the crankshaft as this will also mar the new Crankshaft Seal and will result to leakage. Coat a thin layer of clean oil to the crankshaft seal journal and the lip of the new Crankshaft Seal before forcing it into the journal of the crankshaft using a smooth round end of a socket extension in order to get the lips worked into the crankshaft seal journal. Heating is done by applying multi-purpose grease on the journal and also the seal lip. The Crankshaft Seal can then be tapped into the retainer using the seal driver. The remaining steps as are involved in the removal process are to be reversed. Last but not the least, start the engine and look for some signs of oil leak.

    Q:
How to replace the rear crankshaft seal on Four cylinder engine on Honda Accord? Posted by Customer
    A:
It requires the removal of the transaxle together with the flywheel/driveplate to be detached from the engine. Remove the old Crankshaft Seal by prying off with either a screwdriver or with a crankshaft seal puller tool. Slip multi-purpose grease into the crankshaft seal journal to the lip of the new Crankshaft Seal; then, position the seal in that manner that makes the spring be on the inside, expending as much effort as can do to force the stiff lip down over the crankshaft's seal journal. Using a seal installation tool gently hammer the new Crankshaft Seal into place without over-driving it since this could damage the seal and may not allow it to go to the right depth. The rest of the steps includes the processes of the above removal in reverse order.
