The transaxle must be removed from the vehicle for this procedure. Begin by removing the flywheel/driveplate. Before removing the Crankshaft Seal, it is very important to check the clearance between the seal and the outside edge of the retainer or block, ensuring the new seal is not driven in past this measurement. Use a screwdriver or seal removal tool to carefully pry the seal out. Apply a film of clean oil to the crankshaft seal journal and the lip of the new Crankshaft Seal, then carefully tap the seal into place. The lip is stiff, so work it onto the seal journal of the crankshaft with a smooth object like the end of a socket extension. Using a seal driver, tap the Crankshaft Seal into place to the previously recorded depth. The remaining steps involve reversing the removal process. Finally, run the engine and check for oil leaks.

Clean the seal bore and check for nicks or gouges, as well as examining the hub area for abnormal wear or scoring, replacing it if necessary.

Use a breaker bar and socket to remove the crankshaft pulley center bolt, ensuring to lock the pulley in position with a strap wrench or special tool, wrapping a shop rag around the pulley beforehand.

Pry out the old seal using a screwdriver or a seal removal tool.

Using a seal-driver or a socket with an outside diameter slightly smaller than that of the seal, carefully drive the new seal into place with a hammer, ensuring it is installed squarely and to the same depth as the original.
