    Q:
How to service oxygen sensors in the Honda Pilot? Posted by Customer
    A:
In 2001 and 2002 Acura, and 2003 and 2004 Honda models, when servicing oxygen sensors, exercise caution as they have a permanently attached pigtail and electrical connector that cannot be removed, damaging or removing which renders the sensor useless. Keep contaminants away from the electrical connector and the sensor's louvered end, refrain from using cleaning solvents, and handle them delicately, avoiding rough treatment. Ensure the silicone boot on the sensor is correctly positioned to prevent potential melting issues. For sensor replacement, whether upstream or downstream, which are located beneath the vehicle, raise and secure the vehicle on jackstands. Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the sensor (using a wrench for upstream sensors), and if reinstalling the old sensor, apply anti-seize compound to its threads to facilitate future removal. Installation should be the reverse of the removal process, ensuring proper sensor tightening. In 2003 and later Acura and 2005 and later Honda models, with multiple catalytic converters, including warm-up converters with oxygen sensors, you may need to raise the vehicle to access these sensors. Disconnect the electrical connectors, remove the sensors (using an oxygen sensor socket), apply anti-seize compound to threads if reusing the old sensor, and reinstall them securely. For the front cylinder head's upstream sensor, you may not need to raise the vehicle, but a mirror might be necessary for visibility.

    Q:
How to service oxygen sensors in the Honda Ridgeline? Posted by Customer
    A:
During service of 2003 Acura and 2005 Honda oxygen sensors, performers should exercise caution because the sensors are mounted within the exhaust manifold or pipe therefore their removal can be challenging when the vehicle is cold. Engine start-up for one to two minutes helps minimize potential damage. The oxygen sensors come with attached pigtail and electrical connector that needs complete protection from damage and removal while maintaining a clean area between connector and sensor end free from dirt and grease. Handle the sensor carefully while keeping the silicone boot in position for prevention of melting. Also refrain from applying cleaning solutions on the sensor. These models come equipped with four oxygen sensors which are distributed as one upstream sensor and one downstream sensor for both warm-up catalytic converters. The upstream oxygen sensor located in the front cylinder head can be reached without vehicle lifting but the rear sensor demands either using a mirror or accessing through the vehicle's underside after it is raised. Engine cover removal helps access the upstream sensor where you can disconnect the wire connector and use an oxygen sensor socket to extract it. During old sensor replacement one should use anti-seize compound on threads while new sensors arrive with pre-applied compound. For downstream sensor replacement start by raising the vehicle securely and disconnect the electrical connector followed by removing the sensor with the socket while applying anti-seize compound if reinstalling an old sensor. The installation process requires following the opposite sequence to achieve tight sensor installation.
