Honda 17045-SJC-A01 Set, Fuel Pump Module

Before starting work on Honda models from 2005 and Acura models from 2003, drain the fuel pressure. Take the wire connection off the car's negative battery terminal. Take out the fuel pump/fuel level sender from the fuel tank and put it on your workbench to clean. Pull out the fuel level sending unit plug and then pull it off from the fuel filter housing. To take apart the fuel pump/fuel filter housing, disconnect the fuel supply line with a new O-ring and remove the case. Unplug the power wires for the fuel pump from its circuitry, and disconnect the pump's grounding wire from the housing's fuel filter unit. Open the fuel pressure regulator housing by unscrewing two small latches. Next, remove the metal strap connecting the fuel pump to the housing. Before reinstalling, take off the part that holds the pressure regulator, push the regulator out of its housing, and discard the worn O-rings, which need replacing. Look at the spacer and filter screen, and get new ones if you see any damage. Take out the fuel pump by unhooking two locking parts and pulling it through its housing, throwing away the rubber O-ring inside. The pump needs a new O-ring for reinstallation. Take off the clip holding the fuel pump suction filter, and pull out the filter itself. Scrub the fuel strainer clean with fresh solvent, or buy new parts if the cleaner isn't doing the job. Putting the components back in place needs fresh O-rings and a fresh retainer clip installed on the strainer. After putting the pump back in, reconnect the ground cable, turn on the engine, and look for gas leaks where the pump fuel hoses connect. First, inspect the gas lines for any dripping. When everything looks good, put back the access cover, carpets, and rear car seat.

Take your cable off from the battery negative terminal. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Take out the driver's seat on the second row, pull up the carpet for the area directly underneath. The carpet under the seat has two sections of holes: one small and one big. The small holes are for reaching the electrical plug of the fuel pump and fuel level sensor. The bigger holes are made so you can pull out the fuel pump and fuel level sensor. Disassemble along the bigger opening in the carpeting and gently lift thelarge flap. First we pull the rubber seal off from the fuel pump cover, and disconnect the electrical connection to the fuel level unit sensor. Undo the screws, and remove the cover that gives you access to the fuel pump. Avoid contamination by first detaching the quick-connect fuel line from the fuel pump. Put protective plastic bags on either end to keep foreign matter from getting inside. Take off the big locknut that holds the fuel pump to the tank in place. Pull out neat work towels from your shop kit around the narrow hole to drain fuel. Lift out the fuel pump/level sender assembly out of the fuel tank reservoir. When putting back the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit module, start by inserting the seal first to keep it from getting damaged by installation. After installing the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit module access plate, seat, and carpet, reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal, start the engine, and make sure all fuel leaks are fixed.

Before checking Honda models from 2005 forward and Acura models from 2003 onward one must verify fuel presence in the tank then activate the fuel pump by switching to ignition ON to hear a brief whirring sound. A high-pressure fuel gauge needs an adapter to measure fuel pressure by connecting at the firewall opening of the fuel system. Disconnect the fuel lines only after monitoring the system pressure drops and cutting off all power from the battery terminal. You must first remove the fuel supply line quick-connect fitting then connect a fuel pressure gauge to that port. Next step is to reconnect the battery followed by turning the ignition switch to ON status while observing the fuel pump operation for two seconds alongside pressure readings on the gauge. Begin the engine operation while monitoring until it gets to normal operating temperature. Record the observed fuel pressure reading. The correct working condition indicates of the system when pressure measurements stay within designated specifications. A reading below the specification requires checks for leaks along the fuel lines as well as assessment of the fuel filter clog to determine whether the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit module needs replacement. You should replace the fuel pressure regulator because its pressure readings stay beyond the predetermined range. To finalize testing you must first withdraw system pressure then disconnect the battery terminal then take out your testing rig before reattaching the fuel supply line followed by restoring the terminal connection to start the engine for fuel leak detection.
