    Q:
How to Replace a Front Sway Bar Kit and Sway Bar Bushing on a Honda Civic? Posted by Customer
    A:
Place your jack under car's front to lift it up, then balance the elevated weight on two jackstands. Stop your car and put on the handbrake first, then block the back wheels with blocks to stop them from rolling off the stands. Remove the front wheels. Take off the nuts connecting the stabilizer bar links to the control arms and the Sway Bar Kit using an Allen key, so that the ballstud in the link won't turn during removal. Detach the link from the bar and control arm. Installation goes like removal, but the nuts need to be tightened firmly. Take out the steering wheel cover from the driver's footwell. You should then disconnect the steering wheel shaft from the steering gear, making sure the operating wheel stays still to protect against clockspring damage. Tuck the seat belt through the steering wheel and secure it in its holder so nothing can shift. Separate the links that connect the control arms to the stabilizer bar off their ends, just like before. Remove each linking part from its connection point between the steering knuckle and the ball joint. Likewise, take the tie-rod end out of its connection to the steering knuckle. Take out the front spray guards below the vehicle body and the nearest exhaust section. Take out all the screws attaching the steering gear and, if available, the fasteners holding up the steering gear strut. Lift up the steering box a little, then slide the stabilizer bar out through the driver's side of the vehicle while you remove the stabilizer bar brackets bolts and brackets. Look for torn, cracked, or bent bushings along with damaged stabilizer bar links and failed bushing retainers. When fixing the Sway Bar Bushing, first remove the bracket (if required), split the bushing, pull it out of the bar, and release the retainer you may need to flex. Align the new bushings so their cuts point in the same direction as the worn out parts were. Put the stabilizer bar into the right place, put in the bushing bracket bolts, and fix them tightly. Fix the lower control arms to the stabilizer bar links and tighten the nuts. Tighten the control arms bolts that connect the ball joints. After installing the wheels and lug nuts, put the car down and tighten all the nuts.
