Carefully place the compressed coil spring onto the lower seat of the damper, install the upper insulator and spring seat, install the bearing and suspension support, install the washer and damper rod nut and tighten it, remove the spring compressor tool, and install the strut/spring assembly.

Loosen the rear wheel lug nuts, raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, block the front wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling, remove the wheel, support the trailing arm with a floor jack, disconnect the stabilizer bar link from the trailing arm, unbolt the brake hose from the bracket on the trailing arm, unbolt the parking brake cable from the floorpan, remove the bolts securing the front of the trailing arm to the floorpan, fold down the rear seat back and remove the side trim panel, remove the shock absorber upper mounting nuts, remove the shock absorber lower mounting bolt, check the shock body for leaking fluid, dents, cracks and other obvious damage, check the coil spring for chips or cracks in the spring coating, inspect the spring seat for cuts, hardness and general deterioration, mount the shock/coil spring assembly in a vise, line the vise jaws with wood or rags, install the spring compressor, hold the shock damper rod with an Allen wrench, unscrew the retaining nut with a box-end wrench, disassemble the parts from the damper, reassemble the parts in the exact order in which they were removed, guide the shock absorber/coil spring assembly up into the fenderwell and insert the upper mounting studs, connect the shock to the trailing arm, install the trailing arm-to-floorpan bolts, raise the trailing arm with the floor jack, tighten the shock absorber lower mounting bolt, install the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts, tighten the upper mounting nuts, have the rear wheel alignment checked and, if necessary, adjusted.
