Locate the PCV valve. With the engine running at Idle, use pliers to pinch the PVC hose between the valve and the intake manifold. It should be possible to hear the spring loaded valve click shut. If no click is heard, remove the valve from the engine but leave It connected to the intake manifold. A hissing sound should be heard and vacuum should be felt at the valve inlet. If no vacuum is felt, remove the valve from the intake manifold hose. The engine should stall or almost stall. This will Indicate a stuck valve or clogged hose. Check the breather hose for clogging or leaks and replace any defective parts.

The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system reduces hydrocarbon emissions by scavenging crankcase vapors, circulating fresh air from the air cleaner through the crankcase, where it mixes with blow-by gases and is rerouted through a PCV valve to the intake manifold. The main components include the PCV valve, a blow-by filter, and the vacuum hoses connecting these components with the engine. To maintain idle quality, the PCV valve restricts flow when the intake manifold vacuum is high, and in abnormal operating conditions, such as piston ring issues, the system allows excessive blow-by gases to flow back through the crankcase vent tube into the air cleaner for normal combustion. Checking and replacement of the PCV valve is also addressed.

The PCV valve is in a breather hose connecting the crankcase and intake manifold. To check it, squeeze the PCV hose with pliers while the engine idles. Listen for a click from the valve, indicating it's working. If not, replace it. The valve is below the fuel injector rail in the intake manifold. To remove, pull it out of the grommet, detach the hose and note its position. Ensure the replacement valve matches your vehicle and engine size. Installation is the reverse of removal.
