Honda CRX Ignition Coil

Ignition Coil in Honda CRX cars are important because they transform the12 volts of power from the battery to such higher volts of about 15000-40000 volts that are required to ignite the air to fuel mixture in the cylinders of the car's engine. This is the final component in the ignition system and its main task is to provide the required voltage, it consists of two coils of insulated copper wire wrapped around an iron core. Since the first models of Honda CRX, the ignition coil designs have changed from using the traditional distributor systems to using distributor-less ignition systems (DIS) and most recently the coil on plug systems (COP). The main difference among these types is in their design and control, for example, DIS systems use more than one coil to fire two cylinders, COP systems refer one coil to each spark plug, increasing efficacy and diminishing the requirement of high-tension leads. It is important that they obtained proper working of the Ignition Coil because failure may lead to misfires and poor performance in Honda CRX automobiles.

Honda CRX Ignition Coil Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to test and replace Ignition Coil on Honda CRX?
    A:
Firstly, with the ignition switch OFF, it is required to unset the distributor cap. Finally, in the front terminals, remove the two screws on the front of the coil then remove the BLK/YEL terminals and WHT/BLU on the second terminal B. Test the resistance between the terminals of the coil using an ohmmeter and if the resistance does not fall in the correct range the coil must be replaced. The value of the AC resistance is dependent on the coil temperature while standard values are provided at 70°F or 21°C. It is important to adjust the number of turns on primary winding A & B such that the resistance between terminals A and B ranges from 0.3 ohms to 0.5 ohms.Further ensure that the secondary winding the coil tower from terminal A is between 9440 ohms and 14160 ohms. If any measurements are beyond these parameters, then again, the coil has to be replaced.
