- Q: How to remove and install the tailgates on a Honda CRX?A:Open the tailgate door and remove the trim panel. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the rear windshield wiper motor, defroster, and brake light, and also disconnect the washer hose. Pull the wiring harness from the tailgate and remove the support struts, having an assistant hold the tailgate lid during this process. Remove the hinge mounting bolts and take the tailgate off the vehicle. For installation, position the tailgate and install the hinge bolts, tightening them to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm) for the hinge bolts-to-tailgate door and 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm) for the hinge-to-body bolts. Install the support strut assemblies, reconnect all wiring and the washer hose, adjust the tailgate as necessary, and reinstall the trim panel.
