- Q: How to detach and adjust the accelerator cable on Honda Del Sol?A:Detach the cable from the negative battery terminal, then loosen the locknut and remove the accelerator cable from its bracket while holding the adjusting nut. Rotate the throttle shaft bellcrank until the cable is out of its guide groove and detach it from the bellcrank by removing the cable end from the throttle valve. Working underneath the dash, detach the cable from the accelerator pedal by pulling the cable end out and lifting it out of the recess in the pedal. Pull the grommet from the firewall and pull the cable through from the engine compartment side, with installation being the reverse of removal. To adjust the cable, lift it to remove slack, then turn the adjusting nut until it is 1/8-inch from the cable bracket and tighten the locknut. Check cable deflection at the throttle linkage, which should be between 3/8 to 1/2-inch; if not, loosen the locknut and adjust accordingly. After adjusting, have an assistant verify that the throttle valve opens fully when the accelerator pedal is depressed and returns to the idle position when released, ensuring the cable operates smoothly without binding or sticking. If the vehicle has an automatic transaxle, adjust the transaxle Throttle Valve (TV) cable.
