Housed ahead of the throttle body, the Air Filter Box in all Honda Del Sols uses a rigid plastic shell that seals tightly so that incoming air is forced through the pleated paper element before reaching the combustion chambers. When the car is moving, outside air is funneled through a snorkel, turbulence is calmed inside the chamber, then pressure pushes the flow through the microscopic fibers which trap dirt, dust, sand, leaves, and even metal flakes. Early production years and later revisions have the same Air Filter Box layout, so there was never a confusing variety of canisters or cones; the engineers just refined the shape of the resonator tubes to reduce noise and squeeze a bit more under-the-hood space out of it, leaving the basic filtration strategy the same.
