Honda Del Sol Coolant Temperature Sensor

Honda Del Sol Coolant Temperature Sensor works as the thermal watchdog for the car, continuously measuring the heat of the coolant and relaying the information to the car's engine control computer to keep power, economy, and safety in balance. The tiny probe contains a thermistor, whose electrical resistance will change either by rising or dropping temperature, allowing the ECU to instantly adjust fuel spray and spark timing to keep combustion running smoothly and prevent overheating. Throughout every Honda model year of the sporty Del Sol line, a single reliable Coolant Temperature Sensor design performed this duty, and that same Coolant Temperature Sensor still relies on its simple thermistor principle without moving parts or complex electronics. Because the physics behind it are still universal, the layout never had different versions, which means drivers and hobbyists are only dealing with one style when checking the cooling circuit. Unlike other automotive components that evolved into several generations, the Coolant Temperature Sensor in question remained standardized, making it much easier to diagnose and replace without sacrificing accuracy of temperature data. Consequently, Honda enthusiasts enjoy the fact that their Del Sol enjoys a constant Coolant Temperature Sensor architecture that protects engine performance during everyday commutes or spirited weekend cruises, offering trustworthy readings that keep the engine in its optimal operating window and also extend the life of the overall component for the benefit of Honda owners.

Honda Del Sol Coolant Temperature Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to check and replace Coolant Temperature Sensor for the Honda Del Sol?
    A:
The coolant temperature indicator system consists of a temperature gauge mounted in the instrument panel and a coolant temperature sending unit mounted on the engine directly below the distributor. If an overheating indication occurs even when the engine is cold, check the wiring between the dash and the sending unit for a short circuit to ground. If the gauge is inoperative, test the circuit by briefly grounding the wire to the sending unit while the ignition is on (engine not running for safety). If the gauge deflects full scale, replace the sending unit. If the gauge doesn't respond in the test, check for an open circuit in the gauge wiring. If the sending unit must be replaced, simply unscrew it from the engine and quickly install the replacement. Use sealant on the threads. Make sure the engine is cool before removing the defective sending unit. There will be some coolant loss as the unit is removed, so be prepared to catch it. Check the level after the replacement part has been installed.
