Honda Fit Fuel Rail

The Honda Fit Fuel Rail supplies pressurized gasoline to the injectors, enabling the compact engine to run smoothly and with low emissions. In the early model years, the system combined a low pressure electric pump with a transverse aluminum Fuel Rail that fed multiport injectors located just in front of each intake valve, a configuration that affords precise control of the pulse width for everyday driving demands. Later incarnations of the Fit subcompact took technology based on the common rail direct injection, with the Fuel Rail being upgraded to withstand much higher pressures in order to atomize the fuel into much smaller droplets to achieve better combustion and power. Regardless of generation, the Fuel Rail links the pump to each injector by way of one manifold, and a regulator maintains pressure for accurate metering of fuel by the powertrain control module at idle or under heavy load. Two main styles therefore appear throughout the life of the car, the standard port injection rail and the high pressure common rail. The major distinction is operating pressure, where the first is based on modest psi appropriate to the intake runner, and the second withstands pressures that can exceed 2,000 bar, to spray straight into the cylinder. Both designs share the same objective, to provide consistent fuel flow, be as efficient as possible, and to keep the agile Honda Fit responsive in day-to-day use, making every Honda Fit owner appreciate a Fuel Rail designed with dependability on the versatile Honda platform.

Honda Fit Fuel Rail Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the battery cable for fuel injector and Fuel Rail replacement on Honda Fit?
    A:
Relieve the fuel system pressure, then disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the intake manifold, noting that on 2007 and 2008 models, only the plastic plenum needs to be removed while the intake runner portion can remain in place. Disconnect the fuel supply line from the fuel rail and the electrical connector harness from the fuel injectors by freeing the retaining tabs and detaching the harness from the fuel rail before disconnecting the electrical connectors from the injectors. Remove the two fuel rail mounting nuts and then take out the fuel rail with the injectors attached, being careful not to lose the spacers on the fuel rail mounting studs. Remove the fuel injector retaining clips and take out the fuel injectors from the fuel rail by pulling off the retainer with pliers and pulling the injector straight out of its bore. Discard the old fuel injector O-rings and lubricate new ones with clean engine oil before installation. Install the injectors to the fuel rail and secure them with the retaining clips, then reverse the removal process for installation, tightening the fuel rail nuts. Finally, reconnect the negative battery cable.
