Honda Fit Turn Signal Switch

The Honda Fit Turn Signal Switch allows drivers to make lane changes or turns with the simple flick of a switch so that their intentions are clear to everyone around them. Mounted on the steering column, this Turn Signal Switch functions as a lever that completes an electrical circuit that sends power to the blinking lamps until the stalk returns to center. On many Fit generations, the same stalk has extra rings and buttons controlling wipers, headlights, fog lights, and cruise settings, such that a single Turn Signal Switch controls multiple lighting and comfort functions. Early models were based on a simpler mechanical canceling cam that clicks the Turn Signal Switch off when the wheel is straightened, but later versions improved the contacts inside and the smoothness of the detents, yet the basic click and return feel is the same. Across all Honda Fit generations, replacement of a worn Turn Signal Switch with the appropriate year-specific unit maintains the precision of flash timing and retains the factory integration of lighting circuits. Drivers like that Honda designed wiring plugs to suit the steering column harnesses on a one-to-one basis so installation is generally a matter of pulling the old stalk out and snapping the new plug in place. This reflects the importance of clear communication on the road, something that is particularly important in the case of the nimble Fit, which is driven daily in traffic.

Honda Fit Turn Signal Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to disconnect and replace the Turn Signal Switch, wiper/washer switch, and hazard switch on a Honda Fit?
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and remove the steering column covers. To access the screws for the wiper/washer switch, turn the steering wheel 90 degrees from the straight ahead position, then disconnect the wiper/washer switch electrical connector. Remove the two screws securing the switch to the steering column and pull the switch away from the column to remove it, with installation being the reverse of removal. For the turn signal/headlight switch, also known as the combination switch, disconnect the electrical connector from the switch, turn the steering wheel 90 degrees from the straight ahead position, and remove the fasteners securing the combination switch. Pull the switch away from the steering column to remove it, with installation being the reverse of removal. For the hazard switch replacement, which is part of the turn signal system, check the hazard switch by clicking it on and off several times before replacing. For 2008 and earlier models, remove the Instrument Cluster, reach behind the hazard switch to press in on the tabs securing it to the dash, push the switch out while pressing the tabs, and disconnect the electrical connector, with installation being the reverse of removal. For 2009 and later models, remove the radio assembly, take out the two screws securing the hazard switch to the trim panel, disconnect the electrical connector, and installation will be the reverse of removal.
