    Q:
How to remove and install a cylinder head for the Honda Ridgeline? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before taking off the cylinder head of a 2007 Acura or Honda built after 2006, you must first reduce fuel pressure, detach the car's battery cable, empty both block drains and the engine coolant. First disconnect and take out the power steering pump, then the alternator if you are removing the front cylinder head. Move on to take off the upper intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, timing belt, and camshaft sprocket assemblies. Separate the cylinder head from the front and rear transaxle mounting brackets before taking off the coolant passage and valve cover with all rocker arm shafts and parts. Remove the EVAP purging valve's mounting bracket when replacing the back cylinder head. Take off the fuel rails and injectors first. Then you can remove the intake manifold that sits below all the fueling components. Turn each cylinder head bolt by 1/4 turn while following the reverse tightening order. Take out the bolts by hand after loosening, and throw them away afterwards. Carefully take the cylinder head off the engine block, using a bit of pushing if necessary. Before installing, clean both the cylinder heads and block by first using a gasket scraper, then special cleaning solutions. Also inspect for any damage on the mating surfaces. Blow compressed air through each head bolt hole until the dirt is gone. Put new O-rings on the oil-control orifices after cleaning them, then put gaskets with new dowels underneath back into place. Put the head on the block without forcing it, then coat the bolt threads and bolt heads with clean oil. Install all new head bolts loosely by hand before following the recommended tightening sequence. You must follow the required torque process two times when installing new bolts for most engines. The rest of installation follows the steps in reverse order. Reattach the battery, add coolant, switch the oil, change the filter, turn the engine on, and watch for leaks. Run it at a low speed for five minutes to remove trapped air from the lost motion parts, and remember that some tappet noises are normal at first.
