Four-cylinder models with a manual transaxle have only the output shaft speed sensor located on the front of the transaxle. Remove the air filter housing, disconnect the electrical connector from the output shaft speed sensor, remove the sensor mounting bolt and the sensor, and discard the old sensor O-ring. Installation is the reverse of removal, using a new O-ring and securely tightening the mounting bolt. On the automatic transaxle models, both the input shaft and output shaft speed sensors are situated side-by-side on the upper backside of the transaxle, with the output sensor being closer to the engine. Due to their position, these sensors can be challenging to access either from above or below. However, approaching from above might be slightly easier after removing the air intake duct and air filter housing. If more space is required, remove the engine compartment fuse and relay box. But if approached from below, the front of the vehicle needs to be raised and securely supported on jackstands. For the input shaft speed sensor, disconnect its electrical connector, remove the mounting bolt and sensor, then discard the old O-ring. For installation, use a new O-ring, securely tightening the bolt. For the output shaft speed sensor, the process is the same. V6 models with a manual transaxle have their input and output shaft speed sensors on the transaxle's front, left of the starter motor. The input shaft sensor is the upper unit, and the output shaft sensor is the lower one. After removing the air intake duct, disconnect the electrical connector from the input shaft speed sensor, remove the sensor and its mounting bolt, and discard the old O-ring. The process is similar for the output shaft speed sensor. For V6 models with an automatic transaxle, the input shaft speed sensor is at the left front corner of the transaxle, while the output shaft sensor is on top of the transaxle, near its backside. Begin by disconnecting the battery cables, removing the battery and battery tray. For both sensors, disconnect their respective electrical connectors, remove the sensors and their mounting bolts, and discard the old O-rings. Installation involves the use of a new O-ring and securely tightening the bolt. After installation, enter the anti-theft code for the radio and, if present, the navigation system, set the radio station presets, reset the clock, and reset the power window control unit.
