    Q:
How to remove a rear Trailing Arm and Steering Knuckle on Honda CR-V? Posted by Customer
    A:
Loosen the nuts on the rear wheel, lift the back of your vehicle, and rest the weight safely on jack stands. Block the front tires to prevent rolling. Take off the wheel, and disconnect the ABS wheel speed sensor harness bracket from the upper arm. Before removing the bolts from the inner end of the arm, lift the trailing arm with the floor jack and take off the upper arm-to-Steering Knuckle bolt. After taking off the wheel, put a floor jack under the arm to lift it. Right before tightening everything back, remember to raise the arm up to match the car's normal height. Before you start, place a floor jack under the arm to hold it up. Take off the brake hose and ABS sensor mounting plates, and then take out the underbody splash shield from behind. After noting how the toe adjusting cam connects with the bolt from trailing arm to knuckle, take off the lower shock absorber bolt, then remove the trailing arm-to-knuckle bolts and free the arm from the knuckle while using a bungee cord or wire to keep the knuckle hanging. First you need to disconnect the stabilizer bar link from the trailing arm. Then undo the bolts holding the trailing arm to the chassis at the front, and finally take out the trail arm's pivot bolt from the chassis below, before you can pull it out. First, put the adjuster cam in line with the mark on the trailing arm. Lift the trailing arm with a jack to match normal ride height, and then tighten all fasteners to the recommended specifications. Make sure the tires of your car are adjusted and straightened when the rear wheels are misaligned. To work on an AWD model, you first need to take off the driveaxle/hub nut. Then remove the brake drum or brake caliper and disc, and then take out the parking brake shoes. Also detach the wheel speed sensor and pull the parking brake cable if your car has it installed. First, lift up the trailing arm. Unhook the suspension arms from the knuckle's connection points, and take off the entire wheel bearing hub assembly. Unscrew the brake backing plate with attached brake shoes on drum brakes, then remove the two bolts between the knuckle and suspension arms. Before taking out the bolts, label the position of the cam washers. The correct way to install is first to lift the trailing arm with a floor jack until it's at normal ride height. Then securely tighten all suspension arm fasteners, realign the matchcodes on the toe control cam, attach all fasteners carefully to spec, and tighten the caliper mounting bolts to the right torque values. Fixing the brakes won't be needed unless you opened one of the hydraulic connections, while checking and readjusting the rear-wheel alignment will complete the job.
