Engine hoses should be inspected regularly as they may wear out because of high temperatures. Inspect for cracks, loose clamps, hardening, and leaks. Ensure that clamps are tight for the hoses that do not have them and that fittings have not swollen or become brittle. In the hose of PCV system, check for leaks, blockage or damage. Look for any distortions and cracks in hoses and T-fittings. Use a small piece of vacuum hose to detect vacuum leaks. Inspect fuel lines for chafing, cracks and deterioration; use an appropriate hose for your fuel system when replacing. When necessary, replace screw clamps with spring type ones.

Start the engine and allow it to warm up. With the engine idling, pinch off the crankcase ventilation hose and verify that the PCV valve makes a clicking sound. If there is no clicking sound, the crankcase ventilation hose might be clogged or punctured.

You can use a small piece of 1/4-inch inside diameter vacuum hose as a stethoscope to detect vacuum leaks.
