1999 Honda Passport Crankshaft Seal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front Crankshaft Seal on 3.2L V6 engine on 1999 Honda Passport?
A: To remove the components, you should first; disconnect the negative terminal from the battery. Subsequently, the drivebelt(s) has to be withdrawn and the fan shroud together with the cooling fan has to be unbolted. Next, it is necessary to unscrew the bolts that fastens the front splash apron and to dismantle the apron. Crankshaft pulley can be removed using strap wrench or large water pump pliers on the outside of the pulley with the engine still turning to loosen the center bolt with a breaker bar and sliding it off by hand. If it is froze, use 2 screwdrivers to gently remove it, use penetrating oil if rust has occurred. Continue to dismantle the timing belt covers and the timing belt, then pull the crankshaft sprocket off the crankshaft although screwdrivers may have to be used without damaging the oil pump. To remove the crankshaft oil seal from the front of the oil pump, the use of seal puller or a screwdriver tip rounded with a piece of tape should be used carefully noting the crankshaft seal surface. For installation: a thin layer of multi-purpose grease should be applied on the new seal; before tapping it into the oil pump bore, use seal installation tool or fitting it into an appropriately sized socket. Make sure you have the Woodruff key inserted on the crankshaft before fitting the timing belt sprocket. Last of all, replace the rest of the components in the reverse manner,; Position the belt correctly, Adjust the bolts correctly Tighten all the bolts to their respective torque standards.
