Honda 8-94381-233-0 Oil Seal, RR. Crankshaft

This operation needs special tools for its implementation and they should be purchased at the dealer or used as services of an auto parts store or a tool rental store. When starting the tear down of the vehicle, start with the transmission after that pull of the flywheel or drive plate. The seal is single piece and the oil pan does not need to be removed during the process of fitting. Gently push out the old seal being very careful not to mar the crankshaft seal journal, then check the crankshaft for any abrasive raised areas such as scratches, burrs or nicks. It is recommended to make the new seal seat using some sort of a special seal installation tool. Using the engine oil, lubricate the seal bore, seal lip and crankshaft seal journal then place the seal over the tool's mandrel with the dust lip resting on the collar. Place the dowel pin on the tool on the crank shaft alignment hole and tighten the tool. Screw clockwise the T-handle on the tool so as to force the seal into the bore until it is well positioned and compresses fully. Last, bolt back the flywheel or the driveplate followed by the reinstallation of the transmission, crank the engine and look for signs of leakage.

A thin bead of anaerobic sealant should be applied to the engine side of the retainer plate.

Using a socket with an outside diameter slightly smaller than the seal, carefully drive the new seal into place with a hammer, or use a short section of large diameter pipe if a socket isn't available.

Use a seal puller or a screwdriver tip wrapped with tape, taking care not to nick the crankshaft seal surface.

After installing the new seal, coat the mating surface of the retainer with ATV sealant, apply a light coating of clean oil to the seal lip, install the retainer, and tighten the retainer bolts to the specified torque. The remainder of the installation should be the reverse of the removal process.

The next step is to remove the flywheel or driveplate.

With the front of the cover facing up, position the new seal with the open end facing inward and use a block of wood and hammer to drive it in until fully seated.
