2002 Honda Passport Crankshaft Seal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front Crankshaft Seal on 3.1L V6 engine on 2002 Honda Passport?
A: With the timing chain cover installed on the engine, first remove the vibration damper and pry the old seal out of the cover using a large screwdriver or seal puller, taking care not to nick the crankshaft seal surface or damage the seal journal on the crankshaft. Next, place the new seal in position with the open end facing the inside of the cover and drive it into place until seated, using Tool J-35468 or a large-diameter pipe or socket, ensuring it is driven in squarely to the same depth as the original seal. Finally, reinstall the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal. If the timing chain cover is removed from the engine, support the cover while removing the old seal and installing the new one. After removing the timing chain cover, drive the seal out from the rear, being cautious not to damage the cover. With the front of the cover facing up, position the new seal with the open end facing inward and use a block of wood and hammer to drive it in until fully seated. Reinstall the timing chain cover by reversing the removal procedure.
