How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on a Honda Fit?

There are two ECT sensors, the first is located in the cylinder head, facing the firewall, towards the driver's side of the engine, while the second is found at the right end of the lower radiator tank. Begin by draining the coolant from the engine. For the first sensor, remove the air filter housing, and if working on a 2009 or later model, take out the bolt securing the hose bracket at the left end of the cylinder head and move the hose aside for access. Disconnect the electrical connector from the first ECT sensor, then unscrew it from the cylinder head. Installation involves reversing the removal steps, ensuring a new O-ring is used and the sensor is tightened to the specified torque. Afterward, refill the cooling system. For the second sensor, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor located in the radiator lower tank. Unscrew the sensor from the radiator tank, and similarly, installation is the reverse of removal, using a new O-ring and tightening to the specified torque before refilling the cooling system.

What is the Coolant Temperature Sensor on the Honda Passport?

The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor is a thermistor located in various places depending on the engine type. Check the resistance value of the sensor when cold and when warm, and compare to the values specified in the accompanying chart. If the resistance values are correct, check the reference voltage to the sensor from the PCM. Before installing the new sensor, wrap the threads with Teflon sealing tape, disconnect the electrical connector, handle it with care, install it securely, and check the coolant level.

What is the Purpose of the Coolant Temperature Sensor on the Honda Prelude?

The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor works as a thermistor whose resistance varies with coolant temperature. Hence ECT determines how much fuel is going to be mixed with air into the engine. The engine will lose its power and stop if it is unplugged. So you should measure the ECT sensor resistance while the engine is cold and hot to perform this test. In other words, it should read 5000 ohms once it is cold then 100-400 ohms in its hot state. This could mean that the sensor may not be working properly. Disconnecting the battery, draining the coolant, removing the old sensor, and installing a new one with Teflon sealant will facilitate replacement. Top off the coolant, start the engine, and check for leaks afterwards.

Q: How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on a Honda Fit?

There are two ECT sensors, the first is located in the cylinder head, facing the firewall, towards the driver's side of the engine, while the second is found at the right end of the lower radiator tank. Begin by draining the coolant from the engine. For the first sensor, remove the air filter housing, and if working on a 2009 or later model, take out the bolt securing the hose bracket at the left end of the cylinder head and move the hose aside for access. Disconnect the electrical connector from the first ECT sensor, then unscrew it from the cylinder head. Installation involves reversing the removal steps, ensuring a new O-ring is used and the sensor is tightened to the specified torque. Afterward, refill the cooling system. For the second sensor, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor located in the radiator lower tank. Unscrew the sensor from the radiator tank, and similarly, installation is the reverse of removal, using a new O-ring and tightening to the specified torque before refilling the cooling system.

Check the resistance value of the sensor when cold and when warm, and compare to the values specified in the accompanying chart. If the resistance values are correct, check the reference voltage to the sensor from the PCM. Before installing the new sensor, wrap the threads with Teflon sealing tape, disconnect the electrical connector, handle it with care, install it securely, and check the coolant level.

Q: What is the Purpose of the Coolant Temperature Sensor on the Honda Prelude?
A:
The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor works as a thermistor whose resistance varies with coolant temperature. Hence ECT determines how much fuel is going to be mixed with air into the engine. The engine will lose its power and stop if it is unplugged. So you should measure the ECT sensor resistance while the engine is cold and hot to perform this test. In other words, it should read 5000 ohms once it is cold then 100-400 ohms in its hot state. This could mean that the sensor may not be working properly. Disconnecting the battery, draining the coolant, removing the old sensor, and installing a new one with Teflon sealant will facilitate replacement. Top off the coolant, start the engine, and check for leaks afterwards.
