Remove the front tire's lug nuts, lift the van's back, put jackstands under it, then block the front tires to stop any rolling. Release the parking brake and remove the wheel. Put in two 8 X 1.25 mm bolts, one at a time, into the drum holes. Push them on and off to move the drum apart from the hub, and then take the drum off. If you can't pull off the drum easily, confirm your parking brake is properly off, and if that doesn't work, access the backing plate's backup by removing a plug and adjust the star wheel guide to retract the shoe. If you find damage on the drum, have it repaired by machining or replacing it. Spray brake system cleaner on the brake shoes, take them off, and put new ones in following specific steps: loosening clips and springs, cleaning out the adjuster, applying grease to each part, and putting everything back together in the correct order. Before putting the drum back in place, check it for cracks and fix any signs of damage. Adjust it to the right position. Once the tire is in place, tighten all lug nuts before making more stops. Then push the parking brake to adjust your brakes each time. When changing brakes on the rear of a vehicle, follow the same steps again: first, release the lug nuts; then, raise the car; take off the wheels; and replace the brake shoes. Follow these steps: clean the brake assembly, take off the brake shoe's springs and clips, then remove the shoes. Be sure to put on new footwear correctly when lubricating and connecting parts together. Always test the brakes before you leave the garage.
